South Burnett Drives
Visit for a day, a long weekend or a week. There are plenty of road trips to discover in the South Burnett.
Start your day trip in Kilkivan and make a stop at Kinbombi Falls, located just outside of Goomeri. After watching exotic wildlife and magnificent waterfalls, travel south-west to the quaint country town of Goomeri. Explore the antique and collectables shop and enjoy a freshly made meat pie at the famous “Goomeri Bakery”, stock up on handmade sweets to enjoy on your journey.
Next stop, Moffatdale and an ideal spot to stop and stretch your legs is at the Bjelke-Petersen Dam day use area. (Hint, grab an ice-cream at Yallakool Park kiosk on your way past). Explore the wineries through Moffatdale, enjoy a bite to eat and stock up on your favourite South Burnett wine.
Head east to Cherbourg, an Aboriginal community waits to tell stories of the past. Visit the Ration Shed Museum and delve into stories of what life was like for the Aboriginal people during the Aboriginal Protection Act in the 20th century and learn about their culture.
On to visit the Dairy and Heritage Museum where you can spend time learning about the local dairy industry and wander around the complex immersing yourself in some fascinating exhibitions of days gone by.
After driving west for another forty minutes, you will reach Proston, which is a popular stop over for many travellers with its quaint village green and welcoming community. Throw a line in at Lake Boondooma as the sun starts to lower over the horizon, and if you’re in luck, you will be having fish for dinner when you round the trip out.
