South Burnett Drives
Visit for a day, a long weekend or a week. There are plenty of road trips to discover in the South Burnett.
Start this loop from Nanango, enjoy tea, coffee or a light meal at Ringsfield part of the historic Ringsfield precinct. Take some time to wander around to enjoy the beauty of the carefully manicured gardens.
Head north along the Burnett Highway to the Murgon turnoff. Explore the Moffatdale area and experience the South Burnett’s northern wineries, Clovely Estate (open weekends only), Dusty Hill Vineyard or Moffatdale Ridge. Partake in wine tasting or see whats on the lunch menu.
Next, make your way to Wondai and Kingaroy. Visit Crane Wines Vineyard, located 10 km north-east of Kingaroy off the Bunya Highway. Grapes were first grown on the property in the early 1900s and cover three acres. Crane Wines produce a range of wine blends; sparkling wines; liqueurs; a cream sherry; a late harvest frontignac; a full range of ports; and grappa.
Heading south along the Bunya Highway, make a stop at Kingsley Grove Estate. Using only grapes grown onsite they make traditional wines as well as more innovative styles designed to suit the Queensland climate. Make a booking to tour the winery and enjoy wood-fired pizza and wine ice-cream.
Visit the beautiful Bunya Mountains with the last remaining stand of ancient Bunya Pines. Enjoy the walks, waterfalls, picnic grounds and cafes or if you’re lucky enough to be at the Bunyas on a Friday or Saturday night, Lyrics Restaurant is open for a special dining experience. Explore the range of accommodation options for an extended stay, you will want to return. Travel on to Maidenwell, and a stop at Coomba Falls, a deep natural swimming hole surrounded by impressive granite cliffs. Enjoy a relaxed, country drive back to Nanango.
